Overview: Over two months ago I have been looking for a brightening skincare product, but I haven't really had the luck to find something that works other than sheet masks from non-clean nor eco-friendly brands. I found a blog post from This Organic Girl about Live Botanical and which products she recommends. In the blog, she mentions a brightening serum so I went to look for reviews about it and found very positive ones; I decided to order it. I had also been thinking about trying out an oil-based serum so buying this product was an easy decision.
About Live Botanical: They push for fresh products that are: plant infused, with botanical extracts, unrefined oils, waxes, and butters. Live Botanical is also environmental and socially responsible in every stage, from sourcing, formulating, packaging to delivering. They try to obtain their products regionally or fair trade certified and follow the rules outlined by United Plant Savers. Their products are GMO-free, biodegradable, cruelty-free. Last but not least, they give back to the indigenous people and environmental stewardship efforts. They give to the Chinook Nation and Wild Salmon Center as Live Botanical lives on their land.
First impressions:
It literally smells like some kind of cooking oil. Which is great because it makes me feel that the ingredients are fresh and natural.
The black glass bottle gives it a more luxurious and high-quality feel to the brand. Live Botanical uses violet/black glass bottles to keep products fresh.
I used a small amount because it was my first time using an oil-based serum.
The texture was smooth and oily and it felt like my face was extremely hydrated without making me feel like it was blocking my pores.
After some uses:
I have been using it night and day for the past three weeks. It has been a great first experience using an oil base product.
My face looks fresh and hydrated all the time, this has never happened before- I tend to have dry spots.
It has not caused me any breakouts of any kind or worsens any existing breakouts.
It does leave a glowy after effect I know some people might not like, but I love this and how healthy it makes my skin look. I use a tinted moisturizer by day and it makes the glow look even more natural. I use the EltaMD UV Physical BroadSpectrum SPF 41 because it is the one my dermatologist recommended.
My skin has been looking less dull and smoother.
Recommendations:
Do not use any more than you need, and if you feel too oily try spreading it to your neck and chest.
If you will use it in your morning routine, wait for at least 5 to 10 minutes before you put on anything else so you give it time to absorb.
If you don't like feeling a bit oily or prefer a more matte look this product might not be the one for you.
