Is health the new "it" trend?

Updated: Feb 28, 2020

This week we will be touching the subject of health and if it relates to the boom in the growth of athleisure wear. Athleisure wear is basically wearing gym clothes for the gym- and to other places such as going to work or to the supermarket. The question is, did people start to wear gym clothes every day because people are actually concerned about their health and want to be more active, or is it just a trend?

Having a healthy lifestyle is nothing new. Since the beginning of time, people have wanted to stay healthy, for more than vanity reasons- humans simply like to live more and well. Recently we have started to get more informed about how to have even better health. Even though we do have a tendency to be inclined to health, athleisure wear and having a healthy lifestyle do not directly relate. Many people wear athleisure wear for comfort and not to actually go to the gym. Even though they do not directly relate most of the time, there is a new collective consciousness about overall health. This has made many people want to work out more and be healthier, and in the meantime wear cool athleisure wear clothes.

People go with the cool trend; before it was cool to smoke, drink and party all the time, and people dressed accordingly. Now it’s cool to be fit, healthy and comfortable so any trend that follows these guidelines is seemed as in. Just take for example all the new juice bars popping up like popcorn. Or even new health clubs like Remedy.

Remedy isn’t a party club, but a health one. Last we visited Remedy in Sunset Boulevard in L.A., and the place is just so different from what we have seen. As you enter there is a rack with clothes that they are selling, and then the reception. You enter and there are so many different rooms that start behind the receptionist and end with a juice bar. The circuit of rooms are made up of a hyperbaric oxygen therapy room, lymphatic drainage massage room, ice baths, sound baths, cryotherapy room, and infrared saunas. In the middle of the room, there is a huge area for meditation. The whole place is made to be enjoyed with friends. You can even get IV drips together! The purpose of the club is to offer an alternative to after office bars. It’s a place for healthy social gatherings.

From eating healthy, exercising, athleisure wear, juice bar, and health clubs there is definitely something that directly links them; higher quality of daily life. Even though wearing gym clothes doesn't mean that you are headed to the gym. It does give us the idea that people want to be comfortable. As well it is easy to see how health is the buzz word of the moment, and people are showing that they as in, in different ways.

Have you been to a health club? Or do you wear athleisure wear to do daily activities like going to the supermarket? What are your thoughts? Let us know!
